When working on this group project i really opened my eyes to what accounting is. I would have never known the issues that were coming from accounting majors of today. When starting my own business i will make sure i have an accountant with the same moral and ethical principles i do. i do not feel like this research made me rethink my future plans. I feel that when i interviewed David Shaffer his insight to a small business was very different from my own, seeing how at one time i did have my own small business. I for one will want to use a computer program to track my expenses or double-check bank accounts or shipping information. I feel that alot has changed in the industry and it is either get with it or get rid of it. Clients expect a level of proficiency while shopping or looking for a service. The customers needs need to be met and taken care of or they will not come back for return business.

Overall i feel that i would have redone my part of the project and added in some slides from a business plan creator i have. It is a 300 dollar program that alot of small and large businesses used to pitch their ideas to investors and banks. Sections from this program show start-up costs, financial analysis and much more accounting information. i still feel that my interview really opened my eyes on some small businesses still not using technology to their advantage. Mr. Shaffer is a very smart and dedicated man. If he did take a class on computers i guarantee he will be moving toward technology like pan handlers moving to the west in the 1800′s. This research project, I feel was a great step toward are final research paper. As a student i know what research needs to be collect and used. I valued this project greatly.

Academically Adrift

After reading this article and reading about the movie Waiting for Superman, i feel that college today in most cases is a machine. Colleges are pumping out students with a wide verity of degrees some beneficial and many not so beneficial. I feel that college is being dumbed down alot. I have many hard classes this semester, one class i have a 30 page research paper in. Other classes require me to take a certification test. I feel that these classes are hard and have value to them in personal life and a job setting. I have also had classes that require very little. I was once asked by my parents if i was enjoying school and if it was hard. I told them that i would have liked to have gone to Pitt because i feel i would have learned more. To be honest freshmen and softmore year was very easy for me. But since i am a second semester junior i have ran out of easy classes to take. I have taken two online classes for my major and both were very hard. My major is Sport management. This is in no way an easy major. I currently manage a gym in Indiana, I use all of the information i have gained from my major classes while i work. I feel that some majors are “bullshit” to be honest. I feel that a certain amount of coasting is happening in this university along with other state schools. I feel school is what you make it. Choose harder classes. I am a A/ B student. The amount of work i do outside of class is not alot. I have been able to budget my time effectively and have a job. I feel that some people need to study more and that effects directly to their GPA. I feel that if i do study more i will have straight A’s. I have had a few bad semesters to be honest but i think i have had four classes that i got a C in. I feel that advisors should be working more with students. We pay to have a quality education and i feel at times i am not getting that at this state institution.

I know that IUP offers some amazing programs, out of every state school IUP has the best Exercises science program. i was in this major but i found that i would rather be managing then being staff. I feel that it is the students responsiblity to step up and try to better themselves and the country as a whole, to do their part in society. I feel that college has been dumbed down to a point in some majors. Even thou my major is relatively new, the last 30 years. I feel that i have actually seen it grow since ive been a part of it. I am a member of two different journal publications and i like to keep up to date with the information and news coming from leaders of my industry.

I would have like to start college off with very hard classes but that is not what happend. I find it very hard to belive that only 30% of graduating highschool seniors go to a four year program. I did not find in the artilce if this was nation wide.

Shitty first drafts

After reading this short piece, it really opened my mind about really pouring my thoughts into the first draft. I really never looked at the first draft in the way that no one but me would ever see it so i most diffidently have been limiting and short-changing myself. Over the past few years as a desperate act of lunacy I have been really only editing my first draft. I feel that I really do end up writing two separate drafts but in one paper but I take the time in the first to really narrow down my thought process more. conventionally, I would have to say that my writing style and process are most diffidently irregular.

When learing to write I have picked up a style of my own and a process that really expresses my soul. I feel that I actually write better when not explaining my own life or made up events. I really enjoy writing article reviews on articles pertaining to my major. When writing my reflective essay I actually did use two different drafts because in class i had two of my peers read and edit it. I enjoyed the input and took their positives and negatives into consideration when sitting down and re-writing my final draft. I feel that i am refining my writing skills and can realize that my “shitty” paper will turn into what i hope a jewel. This short piece really opened my eyes to making more than one draft. I hope that more people realized the same idea that I did.

My town

When researching the town I grew up in on Wikipedia I found not a lot of information. The town I grew up in is called Quakertown PA. This town is 29 miles north of Philadelphia and has a population of 8931 when the last census was done in 2000. The town has grown a lot since the year 2000 and I feel that the population might have actually doubled since then. A school just for freshmen in high school was opened a few years ago due to the overwhelming amount of people moving to the area. Over all this town has changed a lot since I first lived there. The town used to be mostly farmland and a few factories. Farm land has turned to residential housing and most people commute to work every day to either Allentown PA or Philadelphia.

I feel that there really is not a lot of information on this town because no one really wants to live there. Basically there is nothing to do. It is a lot like Indiana in that way. Originally, the town was actually built over swamp land and that is still an issue the town is dealing with today. To compare Indiana to Quakertown I would have to say that you have to drive over 20 miles to get any type of entertainment. I was surprised to see so little information on the town. I feel that someone should have written more about the town and its history. What is cited on Wiki is that the liberty bell actually went through this town and was smuggled during the revolutionary war. What is not cited is that Red Coats actually made it that far and were on the tail of George Washington.

The professions we pursue

The profession I would like to go into is business; I want to open my own small business. I have owned and operated my own small business before. The business was a bicycle company based out of Philadelphia PA. I primarily sold merchandise such as shirts, hats, stickers, hooded sweatshirts, and bandanas. Only at the end did I actually start getting bicycle parts manufactured. In total I made over 4,000 dollars profit and it made a nice contribution to my college tuition.

My major is Sport Administration. I am really interested in working in the area of sports. I need a career that pays decently and has a lot of job openings. I would like to be the facility manager of a fitness center. I feel that getting the chance to manage a multi- million dollar facility will benefit me greatly in managing a smaller more controlled environment such as the cigar shop I would eventually like to open.

I really enjoy cigars and I feel that I have an excellent sense of judgment when it comes to the finer things in life. I know that there are many things that I still need to learn but that is what life is about. I have been smoking and buying cigars for the past four years and have had quite a large variety from many different countries. I have found that South Africa produces a very nice cigar.

As like many family members in my family, their college major does not reflect what they actually end up doing in the future. My sister Nina Graduated from Johns Hopkins with a degree in cognitive science, when she got out she stated “what am I going to freaking do with this! I really enjoy the subject but the career opportunities are limited.” She now has her masters in business and is pursuing her own business ventures. I feel that your major does not always reflect what you will end up doing in the future. I am interested in sport administration now, but I also know I will be going to get my masters in business.

Research Paper Topic

After i graduate college i would like to open my own cigar shop. I would like to write a research paper on the cigar industry or something related to that. There are many different opinions in this field, especially on how and where cigars should be kept and i feel that this would make a very interesting research paper. I might want to go into further detail and explaing my business plan.

Chris, like all of us, wanted to make his own existence in this world. His views are only a whisper of the new age and speak mostly of transcendentalism. Chris could live an existence I could never, I have too many dependencies in this world. Chris wanted change and a change he got. One influence in Chris’s life would be Jack London. London wrote books of adventure in Alaska and other exotic places. Jack London has a minute understanding of the hardships faced in Alaska on his own.Chris took these books to heart and I feel that it was ultimately his down fall. Chris needed to figure out what he wanted and it ended up being his down fall. Chris lived the life he wanted to and eventually paid the price of the wild.

What are the things you would do with the money if you did not go to school?

Can you afford to go?

These are all questions that can be researched privately or publicly. I feel that some of these questions are better than others. I feel that a paper can be writing using one of the above questions as a thesis.
